Police Seize 893 Boxes of Illegal Liquor on Sitapur Highway, Two Arrested

Lucknow: In a major crackdown, a joint team from Itaunja Police Station and the Excise Department recovered 893 boxes of non-provincial foreign liquor labeled “Royal Party” on 10th October 2024. The seizure took place on Sitapur Highway near Itaunja toll, where a truck container (HR 55 R 9330) carrying the illicit consignment was intercepted following a tip-off from a special informer.

The two individuals arrested in connection with the case were identified as Rakesh Kumar (48), resident of Durana village, Ambala Sadar, and Sanjeev Kumar (47), resident of Ambala City. Upon interrogation, they revealed that they were transporting the liquor from Kashipur, Uttarakhand, with the intent to sell it in Bihar, where liquor is banned but commands a higher price.

The suspects admitted to creating fake permits and bills by scanning and editing old documents, making them appear legitimate. They also used forged signatures and seals, making it difficult for authorities to identify the fake documents.

A case has been registered under sections 61(2)/318(4)/336(3)/338/340(2) BNS and 60/63/72 of the Excise Act at Itaunja Police Station. Both accused have been arrested, and further legal action is underway.

The police emphasized that this operation is part of a larger effort to curb illegal liquor transportation and sale, particularly in states where alcohol is banned.
