Lucknow: To inspire young minds to actively engage with societal challenges, the Amity Institute of Liberal Arts (AILA) at Amity University, Lucknow Campus, hosted the ‘Amity Youth Parliament: Igniting the Change’ today. The event focused on two pivotal topics: “One Nation, One Election” and “Illegal Migrants,” with students taking on roles like real ministers and opposition leaders to engage in robust debate.
A total of 72 delegates and students from leading institutions across Lucknow, including Lucknow University, Isabella Thoburn College, Babu Banarasi Das University, and Navyug Kanya Mahavidyalaya, participated in this platform for discussion, debate, and collaboration.
The event was inaugurated by Siddharth Verma, Secretary of the Indian Railway Traffic Service, Aparna Mishra, member of the International Youth Diplomacy Forum under the Ministry of Education, and Prof. (Dr.) Anil Vashisht, Pro Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Lucknow Campus. Prof. (Dr.) Rohit Kushwaha, Director of AILA, and Dr. Satendra Kumar Mishra, Coordinator of AILA, were also present. The inauguration began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
Welcoming the guests, Prof. (Dr.) Rohit Kushwaha said, “Liberal arts education is about exploring new paths and challenging established norms. I urge you all to think critically, ask meaningful questions, and discover innovative solutions. Make the most of this opportunity to grow, learn, and expand your horizons.”
Prof. (Dr.) Anil Vashisht, Pro Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Lucknow, said, “This event represents a landmark initiative designed to cultivate leadership and civic responsibility among the youth. Chief Guest Siddharth Verma emphasized the significance of the topics discussed, saying, “The issues of ‘One Nation, One Election’ and ‘Illegal Migrants’ are two of the most pressing challenges facing our country today. These are critical discussions that will not only influence the future of governance in India but will also contribute to your own personal development. During the debates, participants showcased their public speaking and critical thinking skills, proposing thoughtful and innovative solutions. Ms. Aparna Mishra, from the Ministry of Education and the International Youth Diplomacy Forum, said, “Platforms like the Youth Parliament are vital because they give students the chance to express their views while also fostering collaboration, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills. These are essential qualities for tackling the challenges of the modern world.”
The Amity Youth Parliament 2024 is part of Amity University’s ongoing efforts to empower youth and promote a strong sense of civic responsibility.
