Afghanistan claims things are changing for the better

Kabul:  Afghanistan’s Home Ministry claimed that the crime rate has fallen by 30 percent across the country. National security and public order have improved significantly. Presenting the annual report in Kabul, Deputy Home Minister Mohammad Nabi Omari claimed that the security system in the country has improved.

Due to the increased security system, citizens are able to stay safe and travel safely between provinces. Omari said that the activities of the ministry are now systematically governing the country in accordance with the orders of Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada and court decisions.

The minister said, “The 30 percent reduction in crime rate across the country is a testimony to the tireless efforts made by the national security forces. To further strengthen security, the ministry has taken steps to professionalize and equip the National Police Training Centers, ensuring that the police are now fully capable of countering any threat.”

Giving information, Omari said that 34 kidnappers have been killed and 76 arrested in 250 operations conducted by the security forces to solve kidnapping incidents.

The minister also said that efforts have been intensified to tackle the drug problem, under which opium cultivation is being destroyed, drug addicts are being treated and strict legal action is being taken against those involved in the drug trade.

The minister said, “Last year, the authorities seized 3,643 tonnes of drugs, destroyed 790 drug production and processing facilities and arrested 10,564 suspects. In addition, 27,891 drug addicts were sent to treatment centers and opium cultivation was removed from 17,651 hectares of land.” “A large amount of foreign currency was recovered from various airports, including $1.95 million, 845,000 euros, 4.83 million Saudi riyals and 100,000 dirhams. Those who tried to smuggle it have been put behind bars,” the ministry said.

“The authorities also seized 344 kilograms of narcotics and more than a kilogram of gold, with 591 individuals arrested during the last 12 months,” Omari said.

Apart from security, the minister stressed that the government has made progress in securing economic and developmental projects, facilitating investment opportunities, securing national borders, enhancing public service delivery and promoting balanced national development.

He further said progress was also made in providing public services, including issuing passports and traffic documents, assisting natural disaster victims, reducing crime and regulating the carrying of weapons and vehicles.
