Lucknow: The Department of Neurosurgery, SGPGIMS successfully organized the 8th D K Chhabra and V K Jain Oration from April 10th to 12th, 2026. The conference was centered around the theme “Surgery for Craniovertebral Anomalies and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery,” reflecting the department’s commitment to advancing contemporary neurosurgical practices.
The event was meticulously organized by Dr. Pawan Kumar Verma (Organising Secretary) and Dr. Ashutosh Kumar (Co-organising Secretary), under the leadership of Dr. Awadhesh Kumar Jaiswal (Organising Chairman) and Prof. Arun Kumar Srivastava (Co-organising Chairman).
The academic proceedings commenced with a cadaveric workshop on April 10th, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy, KGMU, Lucknow. The workshop provided hands-on training in surgical approaches to the craniovertebral junction and minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery.
The main conference, held on April 11th and 12th, featured a rich scientific program with lectures delivered by eminent neurosurgeons from across the country. Highlights of the event included the prestigious D K Chhabra Oration, delivered by Prof. V. K. Jain, and the V K Jain Oration, delivered by Dr. S. S. Kale, former Professor and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at AIIMS, New Delhi. The keynote address was delivered by the globally acclaimed neurosurgeon, Prof. Atul Goel. The scientific sessions were thoughtfully curated to emphasize the principles and practice of evidence-based medicine.

The conference also incorporated an alumni meet, which witnessed an enthusiastic response, with approximately 60% of the department’s alumni in attendance.
The gathering was graced by the esteemed Director of the institute, Padma Shri Dr. Radha Krishna Dhiman.In his address Prof. Dhiman highlighted the remarkable progress made by the Department of Neurosurgery over the past few years. He elaborated on key upcoming developments, including the establishment of Gamma Knife Centre scheduled to become operational soon, as well as the envisioned Nation’s First Quaternary Health Care Centre, which will enable the institute to deliver the full spectrum of advanced neurosurgical procedures along with similar expansion of Quaternary care in other departments. The gathering provided a meaningful platform for reconnecting, sharing experiences, and strengthening professional bonds.
Overall, the event was a resounding success, fostering academic exchange, skill development, and alumni engagement, while reinforcing SGPGIMS’s role as a center of excellence in neurosurgical education and practice.
