New Delhi – A recent global survey by Counterpoint Research reveals that 59% of consumers worldwide are eager to buy generative AI (GenAI)-enabled smartphones by the end of 2025. The report, released on Monday, highlights the growing influence of GenAI in transforming the smartphone market, with the United States leading the demand surge, followed by Germany and France.
GenAI: A Game-Changer in Everyday Life
Smartphones have become indispensable, and GenAI is adding another dimension to their usability. According to the report, GenAI’s versatility across personal, professional, and educational applications has driven its rapid adoption.
“GenAI has proven to be an invaluable tool for users, simplifying everyday tasks like writing assistance, document editing, and research,” said Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint. Writing assistance has emerged as the most popular use case, thanks to its user-friendly and efficient features.
Voice assistants and picture generation are also seeing significant uptake, demonstrating GenAI’s potential to transform everyday smartphone interactions.
Awareness and Adoption Vary by Region
The survey, conducted across seven countries—the USA, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Poland, and Japan—found varying levels of awareness.
- North America leads, with 72% of respondents familiar with GenAI.
- Japan recorded the lowest awareness, at just 7%.
Of those aware of GenAI, 73% have used its features on their smartphones, emphasizing the role of these devices in driving adoption and creating revenue opportunities.
Consumers Value Time-Saving Features
The poll highlights a significant preference for GenAI’s ability to save time, with 69% of respondents citing this as a key benefit. By September 2025, 59% of users indicated they are open to switching to GenAI-enabled smartphones.
However, a challenge remains: only 19% of respondents are willing to pay more for devices with these advanced capabilities.
Challenges for Manufacturers
“Many customers are still unaware of the advantages of on-device GenAI,” said Mohit Agarwal, another research director at Counterpoint. To capitalize on the market, smartphone makers must focus on affordability and explore alternative revenue models.
Options include introducing budget-friendly GenAI-enabled devices and monetizing apps or providing large language model (LLM) services to developers.
As consumer interest in GenAI-enabled smartphones grows, manufacturers face the dual challenge of raising awareness and making these devices accessible. With its potential to revolutionize daily life, GenAI is poised to become a standard feature in future smartphones, reshaping the industry and meeting evolving consumer demands.
