Lucknow: In a major push to strengthen the fisheries sector and generate employment, the Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Department has secured investment proposals worth ₹1,407 crore from 30 companies. The investments are expected to create employment opportunities for more than 2,000 youth across the state.
The move comes under the broader vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to expand income avenues and promote self-reliance in rural and semi-urban regions. Officials have begun preparations to implement these proposals on the ground, with major investments planned in districts including Varanasi, Barabanki, and Amethi.
₹1,200 Crore Proposals at Meen Mahotsav
At the recently held Meen Mahotsav on February 27–28, investment proposals worth ₹1,200 crore were received. Earlier, during the Matsya Nivesh Shikhar Sammelan held on December 17–18, 2025, proposals worth ₹207 crore had been secured. Together, these commitments total ₹1,407 crore.
Among the key investors:

Oro Sundaram Foods and Feeds Private Limited will invest ₹300 crore in Varanasi.

Probus Smart Things Private Limited, Godrej Agrovet Limited, and Nexgen companies have each proposed investments of ₹200 crore.

Deepak Nexgen Feeds Private Limited has committed ₹100 crore for a fish feed plant in Barabanki.

Processing and Feed Plants to Boost Employment
Nexgen Feeds Private Limited from Andhra Pradesh will establish a fish processing plant in Uttar Pradesh with an investment of ₹200 crore. The plant is expected to generate employment for more than 150 youth and is scheduled for completion by 2028.
A.V. Subramanyam of Deepak Nexgen Feeds Private Limited stated that the proposed ₹100 crore fish feed plant in Barabanki will be completed by 2027 and create employment for around 300 youth.
Director General (Fisheries) Dhanalakshmi K. noted that these projects will significantly expand the fisheries ecosystem in the state, benefiting fish farmers, entrepreneurs, and allied industries.
UP Emerging as a Model State
The Meen Mahotsav, held for the first time in Uttar Pradesh, brought together around 5,000 fish farmers, entrepreneurs, and scientists from across the country on a single platform. The event highlighted the state’s growing potential in fisheries and aquaculture.
Officials said that through initiatives like Meen Mahotsav and the Matsya Nivesh Shikhar Sammelan, Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a model for other states in fisheries development. The sector is being positioned as a key driver of rural employment and income diversification under the state’s Vision 2047 roadmap.
With investments now moving toward implementation, the fisheries sector is set to become a significant contributor to economic growth and youth employment in Uttar Pradesh.
