Lucknow: In a significant action underscoring its zero-tolerance approach towards violence against healthcare workers, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate has arrested 2 accused for assaulting doctors and security staff, obstructing government work and causing damage to public property at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI). The arrests were made by the PGI Police Station team under Police Station PGI, South Zone, Lucknow.
According to Press Note No. 2923 dated December 27, 2025, the incident occurred on December 26, 2025, when Dhananjay Kumar Pandey, Assistant Security Officer at SGPGI, submitted a written complaint alleging misbehaviour, abuse and violence by a group of individuals inside the hospital premises.
Incident Details
As per the complaint, the accused persons, who had come to SGPGI for the treatment of a patient, allegedly obstructed official government duties, used abusive language, and misbehaved with doctors and security personnel. The situation escalated into physical altercation, resulting in damage to hospital property, creating panic and disrupting medical services.
Taking immediate cognisance of the complaint, PGI Police registered Case Crime No. 654/2025 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Uttar Pradesh Medical Care Service Persons and Medical Care Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2013.
Legal Provisions Invoked
The case has been registered under Sections 121(1), 115(2), 351(2), 352, 324(4) and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3(a) and 3(b) of the UP Medical Care Service Persons and Medical Care Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2013, at PGI Police Station, Lucknow.
Arrests and Accused Identified
Following sustained efforts, the PGI Police team arrested the named accused from the Trauma Centre-2 area within the SGPGI campus. Among those arrested are:

Abhishek Singh, son of Vijay Bahadur Singh, aged about 23 years, resident of Indira Nagar area, Lucknow

Ashish Singh, son of Bahadur Singh, aged about 20 years, originally a resident of Jaunpur district and presently residing in Sushant Golf City, Lucknow
Police confirmed that the arrested accused were taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway as per law. Efforts are continuing to ensure strict accountability of all involved.
Criminal History
Preliminary verification revealed that Abhishek Singh and Ashish Singh have prior criminal records. Both are named accused in Case Crime No. 544/2023, registered at Sushant Golf City Police Station, under Sections 147, 323, 354(B), 427, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police Statement
Police officials stated that violence against doctors, nurses, security staff and medical institutions will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found indulging in such acts, particularly within hospital premises, which are designated as protected zones.
The arrests were made by the PGI Police Station team, Lucknow Commissionerate, as part of continued efforts to maintain law and order and ensure a safe and secure environment for healthcare professionals and patients alike.
