Lucknow: A tragic incident in Lucknow has sparked shock and controversy after a 12-year-old boy, Unaiz, died from a gunshot wound during a birthday gathering at a friend’s residence. While police have described the shooting as an “accidental fire,” the grieving family has strongly rejected the claim, alleging that the child was deliberately killed.
According to officials, Unaiz had gone to attend the birthday celebration of his friend Navneet when the incident occurred inside the house. Investigators said a minor allegedly handled a revolver that discharged, fatally striking Unaiz. The weapon, police confirmed, is licensed and registered in the name of the accused minor’s father.
Authorities stated that preliminary findings indicate the firing may have been accidental, but the exact sequence of events is still under investigation. Police have questioned six individuals so far, including the minor accused’s parents and their driver, who reportedly drove the children to the house.
Family members claim the circumstances are suspicious and have accused Navneet’s father, Sanjeev Tripathi, of intentionally shooting the boy. They allege the incident may have been linked to a disagreement between the two children nearly a year ago.
Speaking to reporters, Unaiz’s father said the boy had been fasting that day and had initially been advised not to attend the birthday gathering. However, the child insisted on going so that his friend would not feel hurt.

“I had no idea they would kill him,” the father said in grief.
Relatives also alleged that Unaiz was shot at close range and that the family learned about the incident only after he had already been taken to a nearby hospital.
Police officials say forensic evidence and witness statements are being examined, and further legal action will depend on the outcome of the investigation. The case has drawn widespread attention, with calls for a thorough and transparent probe to determine whether the shooting was truly accidental or a deliberate act.
