Lucknow: Sarojini Nagar MLA Dr Rajeshwar Singh has unveiled an ambitious ₹100-crore development vision to transform the Lucknow Golf Club into one of India’s finest golf courses, aligning it with national and international standards. Stressing the need for a collaborative approach, he called for joint efforts from the government, corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, industry leaders, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and club members to realise this goal.
Dr Singh made the announcement while addressing the closing ceremony of the 10th edition of the CII–UP Golf Tournament, where he also felicitated the tournament’s participants. As an initial step towards the larger vision, he announced a personal contribution of ₹10 lakh from his own resources, underlining his long-standing association with the club. “I have been a member of the Lucknow Golf Club for the past 20 years. Taking this historic institution to new heights is a collective responsibility,” he said.
The tournament witnessed the participation of over 240 golfers, reflecting the growing popularity and expanding golf culture in Uttar Pradesh. Dr Singh noted that such sporting events go far beyond winning and losing, celebrating values such as discipline, inclusivity, and sportsmanship. He described the Lucknow Golf Club as a heritage institution that deserves world-class infrastructure to match its legacy.
Highlighting the broader urban development of Lucknow, Dr Singh emphasised the urgent need for a world-class 18-hole golf course in the city. He linked the proposal to the rapid transformation of Sarojini Nagar, citing flagship projects such as the Anant Nagar township and the proposed AI City. “Infrastructure development and sporting excellence must progress together. A modern city needs global-standard sports facilities,” he said.

Praising the role of CII, Dr Singh pointed out that Uttar Pradesh is witnessing unprecedented growth, with a GSDP growth rate of 11.6 per cent, the highest number of airports and expressways in the country, and a steady rise in per capita income. He attributed this progress to sustained cooperation between the government and industry, creating an ecosystem conducive to investment, innovation, and sports development.
The vision for the Lucknow Golf Club, he added, is not merely about upgrading facilities but about positioning Lucknow prominently on India’s sporting map. With strong institutional support and collective participation, Dr Singh expressed confidence that the club could soon emerge as a benchmark golf destination in the country.
