Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi celebrated the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri with reverence and enthusiasm on Friday at the Akademi premises under the Culture Department.
The programme was held on the occasion of the International Day of Non-Violence, observed by the United Nations on October 2. Akademi Vice-President Vibha Singh and Director Raj Kumar paid floral tributes to the two national leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Vibha Singh highlighted the importance of social harmony and responsible citizenship. She also rendered the devotional bhajan “Mera Milan Kara Do Mere Ram Se”, creating a spiritual atmosphere among those present.
The gathering later enjoyed a rendition of Gandhi’s favourite Ram Dhun, presented under the leadership of Kamalakant. The musical presentation added a devotional dimension to the commemorative programme.
Employees of the Akademi, Kathak Kendra and Jayghosh also offered floral tributes and paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Akademi Chairman Prof. Jayant Khot, Vice-President Vibha Singh and Director Raj Kumar. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Raj Kumar.
